Shrek

Working in collaboration with set designer Paweł Dobrzycki, I created a storyboard for the Polish prèmiere of Shrek at The Danuta Baduszkowa Music Theatre in Gdynia, 2011. It was the second European prèmiere of the musical after the West End show which opened a few months earlier. Since ours was a completely independent production and we were not allowed to borrow any design elements from the original Broadway musical (2008), we had the liberty to design without any guidelines (besides the film) and we looked for inspiration in the works by Arthur Rackham and Edmund Dulac. The result was a 3-hour long show in which set changed 40 times so approx. once every 4.5 minutes, and where the 10 ton heavy decoration was operated by a team of 35 people.
